Tirana, February 28, 2024,

Ratification by the Hungarian Parliament on February 26, 2024, of the application to join NATO paves the way for Sweden’s full membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

With the completion of the last formal procedures by the Secretary General of NATO and the governments of Sweden and the United States of America, Sweden will become the 32nd member of the most powerful political-military Alliance in the world.

The expansion of the security perimeter in Europe is of particular importance, at a time when the peace and security on our continent has been deeply shaken, as a result of the unprovoked and illegitimate Russian aggression against another sovereign country, such as Ukraine.

As the Swedish Foreign Minister, Tobias Billström has expressed, “with Sweden in NATO, Sweden will be safer and NATO stronger”.

The Council of Albanian Ambassadors welcomes the membership of friendly Sweden in NATO and believes that such an action will contribute to the strengthening of European and international security, will strengthen the ranks of NATO and the cohesion within it, as well as give another blow to Russia’s aggressive and destabilizing policies in Europe and the world.
