Tirana, 15 December 2023.

The Council of Albanian Ambassadors assesses that the development of the early parliamentary elections in Serbia, on December 17, 2023, is an important moment that needs appreciation by the Albanians in the Presheva Valley, Bujanovac and Medvegja.

Discriminatory state policies by Serbian institutions are still present.

Even in their visit to the Valley, the Council of Albanian Ambassadors delegation confirmed:

  • Lack of development and economic perspective;
  • The countless obstacles in the employment of Albanians in central and local institutions;
  • Non-recognition of Albanian students’ diplomas;
  • Obstacles in the use of the Albanian language at all levels, in the preservation of cultural heritage, in the protection of identity and the use of national symbols;
  • The continuation of the policy and the absurd methods of deregistration and passivation of addresses of native Albanians, etc.

The Council of Albanian Ambassadors encourages Albanian voters, in Preševo, Bujanoc and Medveđa, for the highest possible participation in these elections, with the aim of maintaining representation in the Assembly of Serbia, for the awareness of local and international factors about the position of Albanians in Serbia, insisting on the realization of the demands of Albanians and the advancement of internationally recognized legal rights for minority people.
