The Council of Albanian Ambassadors expresses deep concern over the United States decision to indefinitely suspend the Strategic Dialogue with Kosova. This move risks undermining one of America’s most loyal partners, while rewarding Serbia, a state openly aligning with China, Russia, and Iran.
Kosova is among the most pro-American nations in the world, with an unquestionable commitment to peace, democracy, and Euro-Atlantic values. Suspending dialogue with Pristina, while opening one with Belgrade, sends a troubling message and risks destabilizing the region by encouraging Serbia’s interference through the Serb List.
Kosova needs support in strengthening its institutions, not pressure that could paralyze them.
U.S.A–Kosova strategic cooperation is vital to ensuring peace and stability in the region and in Europe.
Kosova should make efforts to emerge from the EU and now the US sanctions as soon as possible, by changing its political behavior and properly assessing the vital role of Western support for further development of its democratic institutions, its security and the prosperity of the people.
Belgrade’s interventions in Kosova through Serbian political entities must be challenge in full coordination with the US and the EU, and within constitutional norms.
The Council of Albanian Ambassadors calls on the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, as the first winner of the February 9 elections, and other political actors in Kosova, to find common ground for the major interests of the state and the nation, and to resume dialogue with the US to strengthen relations in the fields of defense, security and economy.
Likewise, political entities in Kosova should align their positions regarding the Kosova-Serbia dialogue, to reach a final agreement that would lead to mutual recognition between the two states.
