Tirana, January 24, 2025.
We are proud to share the highlights from the productive workshop organized by the Council of Albanian Ambassadors in collaboration with the Council of Ambassadors of North Macedonia, funded by the Western Balkan Fund and supported by the EU.
This engaging event brought together civil society organizations from across the Western Balkans, fostering active discussions on diplomacy and regional integration.
Key topics included as well, the EU integration processes for the Western Balkans. Participants tackled the challenges posed by neighboring countries in the accession talks, emphasizing the need for collaboration and mutual support in our shared journey toward progress.
We were honored to hear from insightful speakers who underscored diplomacy as a vital tool for peace. They highlighted how civil society representatives can act as ambassadors for change, how they can efficiently engage with Governments and International Organizations, serve as bridges for cooperation among respective states, and their contribution in promoting democratic institutions in our region.
A recurring theme was the importance of communication—without dialogue, we cannot understand one another.
Discussions also delved into communication styles and cultural sensitivity, stressing the significance of etiquette in a multicultural environment. Understanding how to greet individuals of varying ages, genders, and backgrounds, along with maintaining respectful body language, was emphasized as crucial for effective communication.
Participants explored the cultural differences in diplomatic protocols between the East and West, recognizing that diplomats and CS representatives must be equipped with cultural and historical knowledge to navigate and resolve differences. Mutual respect and tolerance were emphasized, reminding us that our diverse backgrounds are not barriers but opportunities for coexistence and harmony.
As we concluded the workshop, we were reminded of a valuable lesson: “Speak once, listen twice—and do so with patience and a smile.” This principle is especially relevant in the Balkans, where fostering understanding and respect is key to building a brighter future together.
We extend our gratitude to all who participated and contributed to this meaningful event. Let’s continue to work together towards peace and progress in our region!
